Oblate Cafeteria: Reviews & Ratings
Beautiful views. We went several times for breakfast during our stay in Florence. The pastries were fresh and the coffee was great. The staff were also friendly. All for a very reasonable price.
Hidden gem in the heart of Florence! The view is simply gorgeous! And great coffee.
The view is very cool given that you can enjoy the cupola of the Duomo. Not far away from the center, so you can easily walk. I wouldn’t say that the prices are affordable for college students, yet they’re more reasonable than the other coffees and bars in Firenze hence they most of the time set their prices for tourists
A great spot for a drink. Air conditioning, magic view of the Dome and a viking atmosphere thanks to the students. Service great for a cafe of this type. Food gets a bit lower as lemon cake/torte was very un-lemony. Needed a bit more lemon juice and/or lemon rind in the mix. Texture good though.
Really cute hidden spot with a great view. Away from crowds. Walk a bit down the street until you see a larger gate that has a small outdoor garden, then you have to go toward the library and take the elevator to the second floor.
Interesting place to stop by for coffee if you need a rest or have a breakfast to start off with. Pastry is normal Italian standard. It is on the second level of the library with an open terrace. The key here is the vibes, you pass through the library and have an open terrace and court view. Also the view of the Duomo . This is like a secret hide away place that is in the middle of the city. You see students studying and people working with their laptop here. There are lots of outdoor seats. We came here for a coffee in the morning.
The Library in Florence is a wonderful spot! The atmosphere is beautiful, and depending on where you’re standing you can catch nice views of the city. I had a limoncello spritz and my husband had a beer—both were delicious. Our total came to just €11, and they even brought out a snack with our drinks. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the setting and quality. Everything was great, and I’d definitely come back again! Definitely a little hidden gem.

Nestled in the heart of Florence, Oblate Cafeteria is a charming espresso bar that artfully combines rich Italian coffee culture with a stunning view of the Duomo’s cupola. Located on Via dell' Oriuolo, this hidden gem offers an oasis away from the bustling city streets, where visitors can savor expertly crafted espresso drinks alongside a menu that balances classic Italian flavors and contemporary delights.
The highlight here is certainly the espresso—a robust, well-balanced shot that captures the essence of Tuscan coffee tradition. Pairing it with a Mocha Cappuccino Biscotti or the smooth Pistacchino creates a perfect harmony of bitter, sweet, and nutty notes that linger delightfully. If you fancy something more indulgent, the Cioccolato Caldo offers a rich, velvety experience that warms the soul, while the Aperol Spritz provides a refreshing, citrusy contrast ideal for an afternoon break.
On the savory side, Oblate’s menu shines with dishes like Pollo Al Curry and Penne Pomodoro e Basilico, which bring wholesome, comforting Italian flavors to the fore. The Carpaccio di Arista con Rucola e Pomodorini stands out for its fresh, vibrant notes—thin slices of pork topped with peppery arugula and sweet cherry tomatoes create a delicate balance. For pasta lovers, the Penne al Ragu' and Pasta con Salsiccia e Stracchino offer hearty, satisfying plates that feel both authentic and thoughtfully prepared.
The array of dolci (desserts) complements the meal perfectly. While some, like the Torta con Panna e Sciroppo di Frutta, may invite a touch more brightness, the Crostatina di Frutta delivers a crisp, fruity finish to your visit. Don’t miss out on the Tagliere con Salumi Formaggio Pecorino e Baccelli—a tasteful board that pairs cured meats, pecorino cheese, and fresh beans for a rustic yet refined experience.
What truly sets Oblate Cafeteria apart is its atmosphere—blending a welcoming vibe with a subtle Viking-like energy brought in by student patrons, and the luxury of air conditioning in a Florentine summer. The staff here are friendly and attentive, adding warmth to every visit. Yes, the prices lean a bit towards tourists, but the quality and the view justify the value. You can easily spend a morning or afternoon immersed in both flavors and vistas, making Oblate not just a café but a memorable Florentine moment.
